Efforts of JBIC for Environmental Conservation
Environmental conservation is one of the major challenges to the global community. Environmental and social considerations are thus an integral part of JBIC operations.
In individual projects it finances, JBIC confirms that the project proponent makes appropriate environmental and social considerations.
In addition, JBIC is active in supporting the projects contributing to environmental conservation and improvement as well as those helping to preserve the global environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. JBIC provides advice for Japanese firms, foreign governments and others with respect to utilization of the Kyoto Protocol, including innovative financing for improving project revenues and reducing borrowing costs by using carbon, and on the investment climate in host countries.
Environmental Guidelines for JBIC Lending Operations
JBIC has established the "JBIC Guidelines for Confirmation of Environmental and Social Considerations (Environmental Guidelines)", which set out the guiding policy and procedures for confirming that the borrowers or project proponents have taken appropriate steps for environmental and social considerations.
