Seminar for Local Japanese Affiliates in South Africa
Participants listening to a presentationJBIC held a seminar for local Japanese affiliate companies in Johannesburg, South Africa, in August 13, 2009.
It aimed to explore and strengthen various forms of partnerships between JBIC and these companies by exchanging information with them, while informing them on JBIC’s recent financing operations in Africa and how JBIC was responding to the global financial crisis. The seminar drew a number of participants from the local Japanese affiliates as well as the Japanese embassy in South Africa.
Yoshihiko Morita, Deputy President, JBIC making a speech in the seminarAt the outset of the seminar, Yoshihiko Morita, Deputy President, JBIC gave a speech explaining JBIC’s response to the global financial crisis and its recent activities. This was followed by a presentation by Etsuaki Yoshida, Deputy Division Chief, Africa Office, Europe, Middle East and Africa Finance Department, who briefed the participants on JBIC operations in Africa.
Then Takahiko Onozuka, Chief Representative, Representative Office in London gave a talk about the recent activities of European and American financial institutions and their financing in Africa.
In the Q & A session, the seminar participants asked questions about the current state of financial institutions and the Japanese economic conditions and engaged in vigorous discussion.
Since the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV) in May 2008, JBIC has been actively conducting financing operations in Africa and will continue to provide financial support for Africa.
