The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: Hiroshi Watanabe) signed today a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on operational cooperation with The Shimizu Bank, Ltd. (Shimizu Bank), for supporting overseas business deployment of Japanese companies, especially mid-tier enterprises as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), located in the area centered on Shizuoka Prefecture (the "Shizuoka Prefecture area").
-
In the Shizuoka Prefecture area, SMEs in the manufacturing industry, particularly for transport equipment, have been pushing forward their overseas business deployment by setting up manufacturing bases mainly in the Asian region. And they are accelerating this move to capture growing demand of the middle income class backed by the recent economic growth in emerging countries. Under these circumstances, Shimizu Bank is actively supporting its customers' overseas business deployment.
-
In this context, this MOU is intended to support the overseas business deployment of Japanese companies in the Shizuoka Prefecture area in close cooperation between JBIC and Shimizu Bank through provision of information such as the overseas investment climate and efforts toward expansion of cofinancing projects.
-
JBIC will continue to develop and strengthen the institutional setup to support the overseas business deployment of Japanese companies, including SMEs, by collaborating with Japanese local financial institutions.
