The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: Hiroshi Watanabe) signed on August 11 a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on operational cooperation with The SHIGA BANK, Ltd. (SHIGA BANK) for supporting overseas business deployment of Japanese companies, especially mid-tier enterprises as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
-
In the Kinki and Chubu area, where SHIGA BANK has its main operational base, SMEs mainly in the manufacturing industry have been pushing forward their overseas business expansion by setting up manufacturing bases mainly in the Asian region. And they are accelerating this move to capture growing demand of the middle income class on the back of the recent economic growth in emerging market countries. Under these circumstances, SHIGA BANK is actively supporting its customers'overseas business deployment.
-
In this context, this MOU is intended to support the overseas business deployment of Japanese companies in the Kinki and Chubu area in close cooperation between JBIC and SHIGA BANK through provision of information such as the overseas investment climate and efforts toward expansion of cofinancing projects.
-
JBIC will continue to develop and strengthen the institutional setup to support the overseas business deployment of Japanese companies, including SMEs, by collaborating with Japanese local financial institutions.
