On February 25, 2020, Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) USA, World Trade Center Los Angeles and Japan House Los Angeles co-hosted Disaster Prevention and Recovery Summit in Los Angeles, California, United States. This event attracted about 60 participants, including officials and staff members from the Government of California, the Government of the City of Los Angeles and local business leaders. Japanese companies operating in the United States and officials of the Government of the City of Los Angeles delivered a presentation on technologies for disaster prevention and recovery. A Chief Representative of JBIC's Representative Office in Washington D.C., gave a presentation about JBIC's financing tools such as loans, guarantees and equity financing. The presentation also covered JBIC's support so far for the state of California.
The state of California, a region with the largest economy and population in the United States, attracts investments from many Japanese companies because of a forward-looking policy for environmental and social considerations as well as the state's geographical advantages. On the other hand, California faces the challenges of responding to natural disasters such as earthquakes and bushfires. At the Summit, participants listened closely to the presentations of the Japanese companies about their sophisticated technologies and expertise with disaster prevention and recovery. Similar events are planned to be held in other states, and Japanese companies are expected to expand their businesses in the disaster prevention field.
JBIC will continue to support Japanese companies in expanding business overseas by providing new business opportunities such as hosting the seminar.
