The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) held the “Overseas Investment Seminar—FY2025 JBIC Survey (37th) Report on Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Companies (GLOBE)” online on December 12, 2025, and in Osaka on December 16, 2025.
At the online seminar, SHIMAMOTO Ken, Advisor of Division 1, Strategic Research Department of JBIC, first presented the results of the FY2025 GLOBE survey. The presentation showed that, in the “Promising Countries for Overseas Business over the Medium-Term (Next 3 Years),” India ranked first for the fourth consecutive year, while the U.S. moved into second place. In contrast, major ASEAN countries saw a medium-term decline in their vote shares. It also covered the impact of U.S. Trump-era tariffs on Japanese companies and the measures taken in response.
In the latter half of the seminar, a panel discussion was held with the participation of Professor ITO Banri, Department of Economics, College of Economics, Aoyama Gakuin University, PIVETTE Kumiko, Director, PwC Japan, and KAWAKAMI Nao, Managing Officer and Director General of the Strategic Research Department of JBIC. The panel discussed the impact of U.S. Trump-era tariffs on Japanese companies and the measures they could take amid rising geopolitical risks. Professor ITO gave a presentation on the impact of Trump-era tariffs and possible responses from the perspective of international economics, while Director PIVETTE presented on the effects of geopolitical risks on corporate activities. Following these presentations, the panelists exchanged views on the theme of “How Japanese Companies View the Trump Administration.”
At the Osaka seminar, following a presentation on the results of the GLOBE survey by ASAI Mizuki, Deputy Director of Division 1, Strategic Research Department of JBIC, KAWAKAMI provided an overview of international political and economic risk analysis for 2026.
