JBIC Gives Lectures on FY2025 Global Landscape of Overseas Business Expansion (GLOBE) by Japanese Companies at Foreign Trade University and National Economics University, Vietnam

On March 11, 2026, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) delivered lectures on the FY2025 Survey Report on Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Companies, also known as the Global Landscape of Overseas Business Expansion (GLOBE). The lectures were held at both Foreign Trade University (FTU) and National Economics University (NEU) in Hanoi, Vietnam, for professors and students specializing in economics and international business.

At the lectures, SHIMAMOTO Ken, then a Senior Research Analyst in Division 1 of the Strategic Research Department at JBIC, presented an overview of the FY2025 GLOBE survey results. At the opening session of the lecture at NEU, AGUIN Toru explained JBIC’s initiatives in Vietnam. He serves as Senior Advisor in the Infrastructure and Environment Finance Group, acting as Chief Advisor for Vietnam and the ASEAN Regional Partnership, and also serves as Chief Representative in Hanoi.

In the GLOBE survey, the “Promising Countries and Regions in the Medium-Term” ranking showed that India ranked first for the fourth consecutive year, followed by the United States in second place, while a notable decline was observed in vote shares for ASEAN countries, including Vietnam. In addition, interviews with survey respondent companies indicated that manufacturing firms expressed concerns about intensifying competition in Vietnam’s domestic market, while non-manufacturing firms tended to view the Vietnamese domestic market as promising, supported by factors such as the expansion of the country’s middle-income class.

Approximately 120 professors and students participated in the FTU lecture, both in person and online, while around 100 attended the NEU lecture in person. Reflecting the high level of interest among participants, a number of questions were raised during the Q&A sessions following the lectures, such as what the Vietnamese government and local companies should do to maintain foreign investment levels in Vietnam, including those from Japanese firms, and why some Japanese companies seek to strengthen and expand their operations in Vietnam despite rising labor costs.
