On January 19, 2026, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) held an online seminar “Overseas Investment Seminar in Nagoya: Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Companies” jointly with the Tokai Local Finance Bureau of the Ministry of Finance; the Central Japan Economic Federation; the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce & Industry; and the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, under the auspices of the Aichi Industry Promotion Organization, with support from the Japan Institute for Overseas Investment. The event attracted many participants from mid-tier enterprises and small- and medium-sized enterprises, financial institutions, and public organizations, mainly in the Chukyo area.
The seminar started with a presentation titled “FY2025 Survey Report on Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Companies (Global Landscape of Overseas Business Expansion: GLOBE)” by Mr. SHIMAMOTO Ken, Senior Research Analyst of the Strategic Research Department of JBIC (at the time). In addition to presenting the medium-term prospects for overseas expansion by Japanese companies and the survey results of promising countries and regions, he explained the latest hot topics such as the impact of U.S. policies, AI-driven business transformation and business opportunities, and sustainability initiatives through overseas operations.
Following the presentation, Mr. FUKUYA Shu, Research Analyst of the Strategic Research Department, spoke on the outlook for global affairs in 2026, taking into account developments in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
In the Q&A session, participants asked questions about the GLOBE survey results, including the business trends and future outlook of Japanese companies in relation to developments in China–India relations and the impact of U.S. tariff policies, as well as their responses to inflation.
In addition, amid growing interest in security challenges in Asia, questions were raised regarding policy developments in countries that could affect Japan’s security policy, as well as efforts to restructure supply chains.
JBIC will continue to provide a wide range of information to support overseas business expansion by Japanese companies.
