JBIC Hosts Joint Seminar with Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc.: “Shifting Global Order, Rethinking Overseas Strategy: Japanese Companies in the Geoeconomic Era”

On March 18, 2026, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) held a joint seminar with Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (MRI), titled “Shifting Global Order, Rethinking Overseas Strategy: Japanese Companies in the Geoeconomic Era.”

In the first half of the seminar, SANTO Masashi, Chief Analyst, Center for Policy and the Economy, MRI, provided an overview of the impact of rising geoeconomic risks on the economy and discussed scenarios that Japanese companies could pursue under the current international environment. Then, ITO Masahiro, Deputy Director General, Strategic Research Department, JBIC, reported on the results of the “FY2025 Survey Report on Overseas Business Operations by Japanese Companies (Global Landscape of Overseas Business Expansion: GLOBE).” He explained that India ranked first for the fourth consecutive year in the ranking of potential countries and regions in the medium term, followed by the U.S. in second place, and discussed the impact of U.S. policies on Japanese companies and how Japanese companies are responding to them.

In the second half, a panel discussion was held with NAGAI Shigeto, Head of Japan Economics, Oxford Economics; TAKEDA Yoko, Senior Research Fellow, MRI; and KAWAKAMI Nao, Managing Officer and Director General, Strategic Research Department, JBIC, based on the presentations in the first half. They exchanged views on the impact of the current international situation on the global economy and the activities of Japanese companies, as well as on how Japanese companies should respond in a world where heightened geoeconomic risks are becoming the norm.

On the day of the seminar, nearly 100 participants attended in person and over 250 joined online. In addition, lively discussions took place among participants at the networking session held at the venue after the seminar.
