On July 16, 2026, MAEDA Tadashi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), attended the MUFG Seminar “India Day” held in Tokyo to deliver a keynote speech.
Objectives
This event was hosted by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (MUFG) to thoroughly discuss India’s growth potential and the outlook for Japan–India collaboration against the backdrop of growing interest among Japanese companies in investment and business expansion in India.
Seminar Proceedings
The event also featured a keynote speech by Nagma Mohamed Mallick, Ambassador of India to Japan. In addition, panel discussions and presentations took place with the participation of government officials and corporate representatives from Japan and India, including Shri Amitesh Kumar Sinha, Additional Secretary at India’s Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, and NAMBU Tomoshige, Director of the IT Industry Division, Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
In his keynote speech, Chairman MAEDA highlighted the following points:
- Japan–India relations have continued to deepen under global partnership frameworks, including the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) concept and the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) between Australia, India, Japan, and the U.S. Given this, he highlighted JBIC’s efforts to support the improvement of India’s infrastructure, including railways and industrial parks, and the development of industrial corridors in collaboration with National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (NICDC) and industrial parks designed to foster semiconductor manufacturing clusters.
- JBIC has promoted business matching for Japanese companies through on-site visits to the Dholera Industrial Area, as well as investment in the India-Japan Fund, which targets environmental sectors, including renewable energy and electric vehicles. Chairman MAEDA also emphasized that India remains a highly promising market with strong growth potential, supported by its large and young population and rich technical talent pool, noting that JBIC’s Global Landscape of Overseas Business Expansion (GLOBE) report ranked India as the most promising business expansion destination for four years in a row.
As Japan’s policy-based financial institution, JBIC will continue to actively support the overseas expansion of Japanese companies and the improvement of investment environments by leveraging its networks with governments, government agencies, and local think tanks in host countries.
