The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: Hiroshi Watanabe) signed on July 25 (Mexican time) a memorandum of understanding and cooperation (MOU) on strengthening the cooperative relationship in the oil and natural gas sector with Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), the Mexican state-owned petroleum company, in the presence of Prime Minister of Japan H.E. Shinzo Abe and President of Mexico H.E. Enrique Peña Nieto.

The MOU is intended to review the cooperative relationship to be strengthened based on the MOU signed in February 2007 and to further build and develop the long-term cooperative relationship between JBIC and PEMEX.

As Japan's policy-based financial institution, JBIC will continue to support the development and acquisition of important overseas resources by Japanese companies, and contribute to the creation of business opportunities for Japanese companies to participate in and to further deepen and develop the economic relationship of Japan and Mexico.
