The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: HAYASHI Nobumitsu) has become a member of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Forum, which supports the work and mission of the TNFD.
-
The TNFD is an international initiative established in June 2021 by four institutions, namely, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme - Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), and Global Canopy, which is a British nongovernmental organization (NGO). The objectives of the TNFD are to develop a framework for corporations and financial institutions to evaluate and report nature-related risks and opportunities created by business activities, and to support a shift in financial flows toward nature-positive outcomes.
-
In its Fourth Medium-term Business Plan announced in June 2021, JBIC identified the addressing of “global issues toward realizing sustainable development for the international global economy and society” as its first key focus area. Also, JBIC’s ESG Policy, released in October 2021, states that JBIC actively supports Japanese companies and the global economic community in their efforts to achieve decarbonization and the SDGs, and as appropriate, discloses the results of the provision of such support to its stakeholders. Joining the TNFD Forum aligns with the Medium-term Business Plan and ESG Policy.

JBIC will continue to contribute toward fostering global sustainable development and resolving global challenges to ensure the realization of sustainable societies, through joining such initiatives.
