The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: HAYASHI Nobumitsu) signed on September 19 a loan agreement amounting to up to JPY2,559 million (JBIC portion) with Sipcam Nichino Brasil S.A. (SNB), a Brazilian subsidiary of Nihon Nohyaku Co., Ltd. (Nihon Nohyaku). The loan is co-financed with Banco Mizuho do Brasil S.A., bringing the total co-financing amount to approximately JPY4,265 million.
-
The loan is intended to provide the necessary funds for SNB to manufacture and sell crop protection products in Brazil.
-
Through SNB, Nihon Nohyaku manufactures and sells crop protection products in Brazil, one of the world’s largest agrochemical markets. As the global need for food rises, the demand for agrochemicals in the country has also been increasing. The loan will finance the funds required for Nihon Nohyaku to expand its agrochemical manufacturing and sales business in Brazil, one of the biggest exporters of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products to Japan, thereby contributing toward maintaining and improving the international competitiveness of Japanese industry.
-
Nihon Nohyaku has also been working on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in order to achieve carbon neutrality in Japan and Brazil by 2050. As part of this effort, it is streamlining the production process and introducing highly efficient production facilities in Brazil. Through the loan, JBIC will support these efforts by the company.
-
As Japan's policy-based financial institution, JBIC will continue to provide financial support to help with efforts to enhance the supply chain resilience of Japanese industries and assist Japanese companies in the overseas expansion of their businesses.
