August 22, 2025
  1. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: HAYASHI Nobumitsu) signed today a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MOFPED) of the Republic of Uganda to promote support for structuring environmental preservation projects, on the occasion of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which is being held in Yokohama.

  2. On the occasion of the Eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) held in Tunisia in August 2022, JBIC signed an MOU with MOFPED to promote the structuring of environmental conservation projects. The MOU signed this time builds upon the previous MOU and aims to strengthen the relationship between JBIC and MOFPED by exchanging information on potential opportunities that contribute toward the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through energy transition and the stabilization of power grids utilizing renewable energy sources. It also seeks to support the formation of projects in Uganda involving Japanese companies that contribute toward environmental conservation.

  3. As Japan’s policy-based financial institution, JBIC will continue to actively support the creation of business opportunities for Japanese companies in Africa, while collaborating with governments of other countries and overseas regional development finance institutions.
