The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: AMAKAWA Kazuhiko) signed today a loan agreement amounting to approximately USD169 million (JBIC portion) with Isuzu Motors Limited (Isuzu). The loan is co-financed with MUFG Bank, Ltd., bringing the total co-financing amount to USD283 million.
The loan is intended to provide the funds necessary for Isuzu North America Corporation, a U.S. subsidiary of Isuzu, to establish a new production facility for medium- and light-duty trucks.
The United States has one of the world's largest commercial vehicle fleets and is a key market for commercial vehicle manufacturers. Isuzu, which entered the North American market in 1984, achieved record-high sales volume in FY2023. In 2025, the company announced the establishment of a new production facility to expand its North American business. Its medium-term management plan also positions North America as a pioneering region for its electric vehicle (EV) business. At the new production facility, Isuzu plans to adopt a production system capable of meeting demand for both internal combustion engine vehicles and EVs, and establish a framework for flexible production and market launch of gasoline, EV, and diesel truck models in line with electrification trends.
This loan will support Isuzu’s North American business, thereby enhancing its competitive advantage in the local market. It will also contribute toward strengthening supply chain resilience, as well as maintaining and enhancing the international competitiveness of the automotive industry, one of Japan’s core industries.
As Japan's policy-based financial institution, JBIC will continue to provide financial support to help with efforts to enhance the supply chain resilience of Japanese industries and assist Japanese companies in the overseas expansion of their businesses.
