JBIC Guidelines for Confirmation of Environmental and Social Considerations (hereinafter referred as to "Environmental Guidelines") have been implemented since October 1 2003, In the provisions of Section 8 (Implementation and Review of the Guidelines) in Part 1 of the Environmental Guidelines, it is stated as follows; "JBIC verifies the status of the implementation of the Guidelines, and , based on its findings, conducts a comprehensive review of the Guidelines within five (5) years of their enforcement. When making revisions, JBIC will seek the opinions of the Japanese Government, the governments of developing countries, Japanese companies, experts, NGOs etc., while maintaining transparency in the process".
Under the circumstances that 4 years have passed since the Environmental Guidelines were implemented, JBIC is currently working on the revision of the Environmental Guidelines. During the process of the revision, JBIC makes efforts to take appropriate steps as follows.
The Outline of the Revising Process of the Environmental Guidelines
The Consultation Meetings for the Revision of the Environmental Guidelines (jointly held by Nippon Export and Investment Insurance(NEXI))
JBIC and NEXI jointly held 14 times consultation meetings from November 2007 to September 2008 participated by representatives from the industrial world and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), literates, relevant ministries and individuals, and discussed a variety of issues for the revisions.

Establishment and Enforcement of the Revised Environmental Guidelines
Based upon public comments and discussions in the consultation meetings participated by representatives from the industrial world, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and literates etc,JBIC revised and made public "Japan Bank for International Cooperation Guidelines for Confirmation of Environmental and Social Considerations" on July 21, 2009.The revised Guidelines come into force from October 1, 2009.
