Agreeing to Establish Ukraine Investment Platform

May 12, 2023
  1. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: HAYASHI Nobumitsu) hosted a meeting today in Tokyo with the G7 countries' development finance institutions*1 and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and announced a joint statement*2 that they agreed to establish the Ukraine Investment Platform*3.

  2. The platform aims for the G7 countries' development finance institutions and the EBRD to work together to assist with the reconstruction of Ukraine based on the G7 leaders' statement on assistance for Ukraine*4. More specifically, the platform aims to collaborate to exchange information on assistance for the reconstruction of Ukraine and to provide financial support, mainly in the private sector.

  3. The G7 leaders' statement on assistance for Ukraine confirms that the G7 is committed to continued humanitarian assistance, assistance to support the energy sector, and assistance to help maintain Ukraine's economic and financial stability. Also, the Government of Japan proclaimed that Japan, as the G7 Presidency in 2023, would maintain the G7's solidarity in assisting Ukraine. Furthermore, the EBRD will share the knowledge and experience it holds as the largest institutional supporter of Ukraine with the G7 countries' development finance institutions to contribute toward assisting with the reconstruction of Ukraine.

  4. As a policy-based financial institution of Japan, the host of the G7 summit, JBIC has led discussions for establishing the platform. Through these initiatives by capitalizing on its status as a policy-based financial institution, JBIC will assist with the reconstruction of Ukraine in collaboration with the G7 countries and international institutions.
