Statement of Intent with G7 Countries’ Development Finance Institutions
Promoting Comprehensive Cooperation in Sectors including Climate Change and Infrastructure in “Global South” Countries

  1. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC; Governor: HAYASHI Nobumitsu) announced on May 9 the Statement of Intent*1 on strengthening comprehensive cooperation in sectors such as climate change and infrastructure with the G7 countries' development finance institutions*2*3.
      
  2. Based on former discussions, such as the G7 Hiroshima Summit held in June 2023, the Statement of Intent aims to contribute to sustainable development in the “Global South” countries including the African region, through strengthened collaboration among development finance institutions of G7 countries and the mobilization of private capital. Its priority areas include climate change, infrastructure, sustainable food systems, and support for Ukraine.
      
  3. By capitalizing on its status as a policy-based financial institution of Japan, JBIC will address global issues from the aspect of finance while collaborating with the development finance institutions of other countries.
